Skyline announces availability of DMS Service Layer in Phantom release.
Izegem, Belgium – Skyline Communications is currently preparing the rollout of the 3.0 Phantom release of its DataMiner vendor independent management platform. This release, aside from numerous enhancements and new features, is characterized by the introduction of DMS Service Layer, which allows operators to take a service-centric approach on the monitoring of their technical infrastructure, rather than the common and less efficient device-centric approach. This new capability, a première for the industry, will allow the DataMiner users to assess the status of the systems much faster than ever before, and to implement a much more founded strategy towards future investments.
“Today, DataMiner, with over 325 interfaces for different third party devices and systems, from over 75 different vendors, and far-out the most powerful graphical interfaces, is the leading solution for management of technical infrastructures in the HFC broadband, broadcast and satellite industry,” said Ben Vandenberghe, Sales Director at Skyline Communications. “The DMS Service Layer enables users now to build a service layer on top of the existing device layer. NOC operators can now look at the systems from a service perspective, allowing them to assess the impact of system events much easier and significantly faster, and to direct the available resources more efficiently. DMS Service Layer has been fully integrated with applications such as DMS Report Creator, allowing managers to visualize short- and long-term performance from the perspective of their customers, rather than an incoherent device perspective. The concept was developed in close co-operation with our customers, who had to deal on a daily bases with the fact that not that many people in their corporation always had a clear understanding of the real impact of device events on the actual operations. With DMS Service Layer the impact on the actual services is the first thing that pops out, and engineering can drill down from the services to actual devices to further analyze the problems at hand. In addition DMS Service Layer also enables much quicker restoring of affected services, simply because of the service centric approach.”
Today the use of the DataMiner has further expanded, and aside from the management of the devices typically found in HFC broadband headends and networks, broadcast centers and satellite hubs now includes also various data communication devices such as routers and switches, as well capabilities to monitor detailed performance of Microsoft, UNIX and Linux servers. This broad reach of the DataMiner platform emphasizes its interfacing power, and allows operators to compile the totality of their operations in a single user interface. Combined with DMS Service Layer, this truly provides the operator with a 360-degree view.
DMS Spectrum Analysis has also been further expanded, and one of the new features is the integration in Visual Overview of the spectrum monitoring buffers, allowing operators to visualize spectrum images throughout the system, and to pinpoint signal issues within seconds. DMS Spectrum Analysis is now also fully integrated with DMS Report Creator such that spectrum images can be viewed from within that framework and can be automatically forwarded by e-mail to key-personnel on scheduled bases, or triggered by user-defined system events.
DMS 3.0 Phantom Release is scheduled for availability end of June, and the associated release notes will be distributed shortly.
