WVEM manages HFC broadband plant with DataMiner
Izegem - May 2006, Skyline Communications, global leader in multi-vendor network management solutions for HFC broadband, satellite, broadcast and IPTV, announced that WVEM, a leading Belgian cable operator and member of the Interkabel group, has selected DataMiner for the management of its HFC broadband plant, including trunk amplifiers and headend optical transmitter/receivers. In addition, WVEM also selected DMS Spectrum Analysis for continuous return path performance monitoring across its entire network.
The Kathrein trunk amplifiers, equipped with Kathrein HMS compliant transponders, are managed with the DataMiner platform, via the Scientific Atlanta Phoenix HMS Gateway. The resulting solution offers WVEM a professional multi-user environment to manage its amplifier and optical headend assets, including real-time remote access and control, comprehensive alarm monitoring, performance trending for important operation metrics, automated notification, extensive web based reporting and event or time driven e-mail reporting, and more. Aside from the various readings and controls on the managed devices, WVEM can also benefit from special driver features that take advantage of the RF level readings on the transponder communications channel to monitor the quality of the various HFC network branches.
DMS Spectrum Analysis is a powerful multi-vendor spectrum monitoring solution, used in the HFC broadband industry to monitor the return and forward path spectrums. The solution can be interfaced with any spectrum analyzer from any vendor, and optionally combined with any RF switch. DMS Spectrum Analysis provides WVEM around the clock performance monitoring of the return paths, automated alarming and spectrum recording of any quality degradations, real-time multi-user remote access for troubleshooting and efficient day-to-day operations, and comprehensive e-mail quality reporting on a daily bases to identify any quality degradations at an early stage before it affects the actual broadband services. That daily reporting is based on DMS Spectrum Analysis its ability to perform long term trending on any RF quality metrics defined by the operator.
“We were very pleased with WVEM’s decision to fully deploy our DataMiner solution, and we are confident that it will bring along important added value for their operations. DataMiner is capable of managing any HFC broadband plant, from the outside network to the headend, backbone and platform for interactive digital services, and this across any vendor boundaries. Any aspect of the operations can be captured in a single screen providing a powerful end-to-end perspective, and with the guarantee that any future equipment added into the infrastructure can easily be added in that single platform,” commented Glenn D’Haene, Regional Sales Manager at Skyline Communications.
