Press: ALE Télédis deploying DataMiner for management of HFC plant and headend.

Izegem - May 2006, Skyline Communications, leading supplier of multi-vendor network management solutions for HFC broadband, satellite, broadcast and IPTV, announced that ALE Télédis, a leading Belgian cable operator, has selected DataMiner for the management of its HFC outdoor plant and headend, including equipment and solutions from various vendors such as Cisco, SEE Telecom, Scientific Atlanta, and others.

“ALE Télédis is fully exploiting DataMiner’s unique multi-vendor capabilities, by integrating the legacy proprietary transponder technology, already installed in their trunk amplifiers since multiple decades, into the DataMiner platform. As a result, ALE Télédis can remotely manage and control over 4000 trunk amplifiers using a state-of-the-art software platform with award-winning functionality without the need to make significant investments in the latest HMS transponder technology, which results in major operational savings. In fact, with DataMiner in place, ALE Télédis can rest assured that they can now easily expand their monitoring environment with any technology, legacy or standard, from any vendor, without any impact on cost or functionality,” commented Glenn D’Haene, Regional Sales Manager at Skyline Communications. “We were also pleased with ALE Télédis its decision to take the maximum out of DataMiner by further integrating other important operational systems, including their Acterna Path Trak return path monitoring system. The latter is tightly integrated with DataMiner, allowing operators to view any return path issues detected by Path Trak from within the DataMiner framework, along with the relevant information from any other operational systems, and to instantly navigate from DataMiner to the native Path Trak client web interface, showing a real-time spectrum on the exact return path that caused the problem.”

ALE Télédis is one of the driving forces behind the Walloon cable unification, and as a first step, it recently announced that it will join forces with Brutélé to create an economic interesting grouping (EIG), thus associating their expertise across the area they serve. The EIG was to prelude to a new company formed to commercialize a “Triple Play” offer, combining analogue and digital TV, high-speed Internet access and digital telephone service. The new company will be distributing its offer, under the brand VOO in Walloon and Brussels. (See also www.voo.be)
