“Any team can rely on Back Office to increase their operational efficiency — we’re like a jack of all trades.”

Time to meet Maren, [Management Assistant]

With your job's diverse nature, what's the most unexpected or quirky task that stands out?

While there are some tasks that we perform regularly, we have definitely been called to help with some tasks that may not fall directly under our job description. One of the quirkiest tasks, to me personally, was cleaning one of the pool cars that was going to be used by a visiting customer. Then again, I am always happy to lend a helping hand where needed and enjoy that every day is different.

Does the strategic planning in your job spill over into your daily life?

Generally speaking, I very much appreciate organization, structure, and routine. And I love a good plan or to-do list. With that said though, I’m no stranger to spontaneity. I do try to maintain a nice balance in my daily life and can appreciate a more go-with-the-flow attitude.

Living in Belgium, is there something uniquely American you find yourself missing?

It goes without saying that the hardest part of living in Belgium is being far away from my family and friends living in America. Fortunately, we live in a time where Facetime, messaging, and social media are the norm, so I am still very connected with my loved ones and look to travel back to America at least once per year.

Aside from that, two uniquely American things that I do find myself missing are shops that are open late (some even 24/7) and free water and refills on drinks at restaurants.

What's the enchanting factor that made you fall in love with Belgium?

Well, I fell in love both with Belgium and in Belgium during my study-abroad semester at KU Leuven in 2013, meeting my now fiancé, Rien, during that time.

Rien lived in Bruges, so I made frequent trips to this fairytale city to visit him. While I was falling for him, I was simultaneously falling in love with the canals, bridges, old buildings, architecture, and cobblestone streets! I’m fortunate to now call this charming city home.

Additionally, the superior quality of the chocolate, waffles, beer, and fries doesn’t hurt either. 😉

Are you a cat person or a dog person?

While I like cats, I am definitely more of a dog person, as I grew up having dogs as family pets. I’ve never met a dog that I didn’t like and will take any opportunity presented to pet or play with a pup.

During COVID (about 3 years ago), we adopted our dog Freya, who is now 5 ½. We don’t know exactly what breed she is, but definitely think she is some type of shepherd mix. One thing that is certain is that she is 100% a good girl! 😊
